Who is this course for?
Our Adult Somali Course is designed for Somali adults raised in the West who can understand Somali but struggle to speak it confidently. Complete beginners can join, but it’s recommended that you have at least a decent understanding of Somali when it’s spoken to you beforehand. This course is not for those who are completely new to the language.
What dialect of Somali do you teach?
We teach standard Somali (Maxaa tiri dialect), which is widely understood across all regions. It’s taught with a neutral accent that blends elements from different dialects, allowing you to communicate clearly with any Somali speaker.
How are the classes delivered?
All classes are live and taught on Zoom in small group settings. You’ll be able to interact with the teacher and other students directly throughout the lesson.don’t need to attend with them.
How long is the course?
Each cohort runs for 12 weeks (3 months), with lessons twice a week. After that, students can continue into our ongoing monthly topic-based lessons to keep progressing further.
How long are the lessons?
Each class is one hour long, designed to include speaking practice, listening, and grammar in every session.
How many students are there in each class?
We keep the groups small, with a maximum of 10 students per class so that everyone gets personal feedback and plenty of speaking time.
Are the classes segregated?
Yes. The classes are segregated by gender — brothers and sisters learn separately in comfortable, respectful environments.
When are the classes held?
Our classes run on both Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30am to 12:30pm UK time.
What if I can’t attend one week?
Don’t worry — every lesson is recorded and sent to you after class so you can catch up in your own time.
Will I be able to speak Somali confidently after this course?
Yes, inshaAllah. By the end of the 12 weeks, most students are able to hold full conversations, express themselves confidently, and understand Somali in everyday situations.
